Am Donnerstag, 1. Juli, gaben Amazon Studios bekannt, dass die letzten vier Castings für die Amazon Serie zu den Werken Tolkiens rund um das Zweite Zeitalter vergeben wurden. Charles Edwards, Beau Cassidy, Will Fletcher und Amelie Child-Villier ergänzen das Team. Hintergründe zu den vier neuen Schauspielerinnen und Schauspielern listet die Deutsche Tolkiengesellschaft (DTG) auf.

Damit sind 38 Rollen vergeben für die neue Serie von Amazon. Sie ist seit Beginn 2020 in Neuseeland in Produktion. Es wird erwartet, dass die Serie gesamthaft 1 Milliarde US-Dollar kosten wird und evt. 2021, wahrscheinlicher 2022 erscheinen wird (The Hollywood Reporter).

Die neue Serie vom Amazon wird ein Spin-off enthalten, mehrere Staffeln und behandelt nach Angaben von Amazon Geschichten aus dem Zweiten Zeitalter, weit vor den Handlungen der bestehenden Filme. Sie spielt zwischen den Nebelgebirgen, Lindon, Númenor. Geleitet wird die Produktion durch executive producers J.D. Payne und Patrick McKay; sie werden von J.A. Bayona unterstützt.
